The only way to know how much radon is in your home is to test for it.

How is Radon Measured?

What type of tests are offered? In Canada, Radon is measured in Becquerels per meter cubed.  The action level Health Canada recommends for a Safe level of Radon Concentration a building is 200 Bq/m3, while the World Health Organization sets their action level at 100 Bq/m3.

1 Becquerel is a scientific term used to describe one radioactive decay per second.  This means that 200Bq/m3 there are 200 radioactive decaying particles every second in every cubic meter of air.

There are 2 types of tests, short-term and long-term tests.  A short-term test must be performed for a minimum of 4 days in accordance with C-NRPP Real Estate testing guidelines.  A long-term test would then be required to determine if mitigation is recommended.  Health Canada recommends a long term test (91 days to one year) in order to have an accurate seasonal result.

The building tested over 200 BQ/M3, now what? The good news is, there are ways to fix the problem without you having to pack up and move.

Short-Term vs Long-Term Overview

Long-Term (3 – 12 months)

We use Radonova Radtrak2 testers exclusively to ensure the highest test quality.
Although it costs RTR more, the quality and accuracy is significantly better.

Conducting a long term test is an economic way to test radon levels but it takes a bit of time, with the minimum recommended testing time being 91 days. If you are in Edmonton, we come to your property to set up the test for you.  We will work with you to find the best location in your house to place the testing unit to get the most accurate readings, without disrupting your lifestyle.

When the test is done, we come and pick up your test. We take care of the paperwork, customs, and send your test to a certified testing lab. The final test result is presented in an average radon level for the test period. Long-term test pricing is per device, regardless the test duration.

Short term testing (4-7 days)

This is a quick way to screen your home’s radon level.

It is a great tool for a snapshot when you are purchasing a property, or an indication of what the radon levels are in the building.

We use our instrument to measure and record radon levels in hourly intervals. Our instrument has four duplicate built-in sensors for accuracy and precision.

The test results are available immediately with the high, low, and average of radon levels for the tested duration.

We do strongly recommend our customers to follow-up with a long-term radon test after a short test is done.
Being safe from radon exposure starts with knowing how much radon is in your home or business!
Since we cannot smell, see, or taste radon, the only way to know is to test!
